Harry Brook breaks silence on being banned from IPL

As a result of his two-year suspension from the Indian Premier League (IPL), Harry Brook, the captain of England’s white-ball team, has now spoken out about the controversial matter. After being selected at the mega auction held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the right-handed batter was expected to play for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League that will take place in 2025. On the other hand, the 26-year-old stated his intention to withdraw from the competition just a few days before it was scheduled to begin.

The governing council of the Indian Premier League 2025 announced a new rule prior to the beginning of the tournament. The regulation states that a player runs the possibility of being banned from the competition for a period of two years if he withdraws from the competition at the eleventh hour after being selected in the auction.

According to the rule, “Any player who registers in the auction and, after getting picked, makes himself unavailable before the start of the season will be banned from participating in the tournament and player auction for two seasons.” This exclusion applies to players who have registered for the auction.

It was just recently announced that Harry Brook will be taking up the role of white-ball captain for England, succeeding Jos Buttler in that role. Over the course of his conversation with reporters in Headingly, Brook indicated that he will not participate in franchise contests in order to concentrate on his career in England.

The right-handed batsman responded, “They haven’t told me about it,” when he was asked about his suspension from the Indian Premier League. Fair play, however, if I do end up being blacklisted. However, despite the fact that they have established those regulations, I am totally dedicated to playing cricket for England.

Therefore, if I had to choose between losing a little bit of money here and there and playing for England, I would choose the former. He went on to say, “In the near future, I will not be participating in any franchise cricket, and all of my attention will be focused on England and any matches that we have with them.”

IPL withdrawal was not a simple process.

In addition, Brook stated that leaving the Indian Premier League was not an easy decision to make, but he was forced to do so due to the significant amount of international cricket that was coming up. Following the conclusion of the five-match Test series that England is scheduled to play against India, the team will then go to Australia to compete in the Ashes Series.

It was the best choice for me to take this time off after making the decision to withdraw from the Indian Premier League. Obviously, this was not an easy choice to make, but I just need to make an effort to better manage my workload. “Over the course of the past year and a half, I have participated in a tremendous amount of cricket, and it is only going to increase in the years to come,” said Brook.

“I’m not sure how much franchise cricket I’ll be playing in the near future, but playing for England and trying to play as much cricket for England as I can is always going to be my top priority,” he continued. “I’m not sure how much franchise cricket I’ll be playing.”

In the previous round of the mega auction, Delhi Capitals purchased Brook for a total of 6.25 crore Indian Rupees. As a result of his obligations with the England squad, he made the decision to withdraw from the Indian Premier League in 2025.

The following is a statement that Brook posted on Instagram: “I have made the very difficult decision to withdraw from the upcoming Indian Premier League.” I would want to extend my sincerest apologies to the Delhi Capitals and all of their supporters.

“It is a really important time for England cricket, and I want to fully commit to preparing for the upcoming series,” he stated in addition.
