Set to start on March 22, the much awaited Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 will feature Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) opening encounter. Still, numerous players have been excluded from the event for injury and other reasons ahead of time. While one player has even been banned by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), some franchises have already nominated successors. The five main names absent from IPL 2025 are shown here.
Those Players Missing IPL 2025
Lizaad Williams (Mumbai Indians)
Signalled by Mumbai Indians for ₹50 lakh in the auction, South African pacer Lizaad Williams will miss the whole season because to a knee ailment. Mumbai Indians have brought in Corbin Bosch, another South African cricketer noted for his all-around skills, in his absence. Having only one Test and two ODIs, Bosch has little foreign exposure; yet, this chance in the IPL could be a career turning moment.
Umran Malik (kolkata knight Riders)
Renowned for his raw pace, express fast bowler Umran Malik will not be playing this season. KKR paid ₹75 lakh for him in the IPL 2025 auction; but, an injury has sidelined him. KKR has replaced with left-arm bowler Chetan Sakariya, who has so far claimed 20 wickets and participated in 19 IPL games.
Harry Brook (Delhi Capitals – Two Year Ban)
Just before the commencement of the IPL 2025, England’s budding phenom Harry Brook pulled out from the tournament. Having paid ₹6.25 crore for him, Delhi Capitals hoped he would improve their batting order. But this is the second straight season Brook has missed from the IPL at last-minute, which has resulted in BCCI ban on him spanning two years. Delhi Capitals have not yet stated a replacement.
Allah Mohammed Ghazanfar, Mumbai Indians
Mumbai Indians signed 19-year-old rising spinner Allah Mohammad Ghazanfar for ₹4.8 crore, but he has been sidelined owing to a back ailment. MI has picked in seasoned Afghan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who has 19 wickets in as many IPL contests in his place. For ₹2 crore Mumbai Indians hired Mujeeb’s services.
Brydon Carse ( Sunrisers Hyderabad )
Another player missing the event owing to injury is England fast bowler Brydon Carse. Originally bought for ₹1 crore in the auction, Sunrisers Hyderabad recruited South African all-rounder Wiaan Mulder as a substitute due to his unavailability. Mulder has 60 international wickets overall having represented South Africa in 18 Tests, 25 ODIs, and 11 T20Is.
With this significant rearranging of the squad line-ups, IPL 2025 will see fresh faces replacing important players. The performance of the replacements in the high-stress event will much be anticipated by the fans.
